Cranial Osteopathy

About Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle form of osteopathic treatment that encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body. Although this form of treatment is suitable for any age, it is the treatment of choice for all babies and young children.

Cranial treatment is useful for people who require a more gentle approach, such as:

Chronic pain sufferers or long term pain conditions.

Patients who do not react well to stronger forms of treatment.

Babies- As it can help resolve the strains from the birth process.

What does Cranial treatment involve?

Cranial osteopaths work on the ‘involuntary motion’ or the cranial rhythm, which is a rhythmical shape change present in all the body tissues. It is a very small movement and so cranial osteopaths have a developed sense of touch to feel this movement.

Osteopaths assess this motion and treat any tensions; those caused by trauma, for example. If an area of the body is restricted, distressed or painful, this will be reflected by an altered quality of the involuntary rhythm. Osteopaths can detect this by applying a very gentle pressure, using their hands and altering the disturbed movement.
